【主讲人简介】

Dr. Thomas H. Hahn got his Ph.D.at University of Heidelberg, Germany.  He was an assistant Professor, Cornell University and now is teaching at  University of California, Berkeley. A historian and cultural geographer by  training, Hahn in recent years has divided his time researching and documenting  the New York state canal system and the Grand Canal of China. Both artificial  waterways have served as defining communication corridors in their respective  environments which deserve to be acknowledged and explored in time and space.  

托马斯·哈恩教授为历史学家和文化地理学家。他在德国海德堡大学取得博士学位,曾任教于康奈尔大学,现任教于加州大学伯克利分校。哈恩教授近年的研究集中于研究美国纽约州运河系统和中国大运河。

【讲座内容简介】

This presentation  addresses a number of significant questions regarding America’s Erie Canal and  China’s Grand Canal: 1. Principles of regional and national transportation and  communications development; 2. Testing applicability of said set of principles  across a sample set (of two); 3. Identification & rediscovery of spatial  patterns throughout the cultural landscape; 4. Derivative interests: Tracing  & tracking lost populations; National heritage and memory - the Cultural  Corridor concept .

此次演讲解决有关美国伊利运河和中国大运河研究的几个重要问题:1. 发展区域和国家交通运输的一套原则;2. 测试上述一套原则在两个个案上的适用性;3. 在整个文化景观中识别和重新发现空间模式;4. 衍生的兴趣:追寻逝去的社会;国家遗产和记忆——文化走廊概念。
